Resisting the Doom and Gloom

Written on the 9th of February 2009 by Lou Hatton

The last year has been an extremely hard one for Sunshine Coast couple Lou & Sue Hatton.  They sold out of their resort management business in Dec 05 and then set about the task of applying their hard won skills to developing a small residential complex.  Then came the "World Economic Crises".

With everything on the line including their first ever home (as the Army kept them away from home ownership all their married life) they found themselves facing ever increasing negativity which affected consumers and the banks.  The biggest challenge was to gain finance while banks were withdrawing all support to the development industry.

But undeterred they continued to battle away, and in doing so developed a totally creative method of funding their project.  Based on a joint venture arrangement they asked family and friends to share the development profits and help fund the project.  This resulted in Westpac rising to the challenge and approving finance to progress the construction.

So after a long time of involving sleepless nights and untold stress they now find themselves in a very positive situation.  The development "Riverwalk Residences" is about to be built in the lovely Cotton Tree area of the Sunshine Coast and for its type its the "only show in town".

Developers have been put on hold by a anti-growth council, the economic crises and the general doom and gloom promoted by the media.  The Sunshine Coast has huge population growth yet the supply of new residences has dried up.

At least through sheer determination and creative positive thinking this family has established a solid pathway through the negativity maze.  Shows what can be done to overcome if you set your mind to it.

As a result of fighting through this totally negative situation for so long, Lou and Sue have vowed to help facilitate the good old Aussie fightback.  The first action was to stop buying newspapers as they continue to sell on the back of negative press.  Of course the next was to support Good Onya Australia as this portal for positivity is a great faciltator.

As Lou says "we don't wish to put our heads in the sand but only good will come from being positive.  Shame the media doesn't appreciate this"
